Welcome to JustAskJess!
You can call me Jess. I am a lawyer in Oklahoma who practices school law and teaches school law as an adjunct professor. I am a proud parent of two amazing kids who attend public school.
My specialty is helping solve problems. And while I have spent my work days over the past 17 years helping public school administrators, school board members, and leaders navigate their school legal matters, I found myself wanting to share more. With you!
And truth be told, sometimes I have to navigate school world with my own parent hat on and keep in mind not to come out swiping as a mama bear. So if you are a parent, I can relate.
Whether you are a parent, a student, a grown up looking out for a kiddo, an educator, or just a curious busy body who wants to know what the heck is going on in the education world now, all are welcome here!
So, here are some things to understand up front:
- I am NOT giving you legal advice.
- I am NOT your attorney.
- I will shed light on educational legal matters in a general sense to hopefully link together what you read in media, social media, and otherwise with the real deal behind the scenes.
- This is a fun hobby for me, and I just want to help the school community so that kiddos can enjoy their educational experiences.
- You may not always like or agree with what I have to say, and I’m ok with that.
- My ultimate goal is to allow you to ask generic school law questions based on what you see/hear going on and to answer you as best as I can without going so far into the weeds that it’s no longer helpful.
- Ask me anything! If I can answer, I will. If I can’t, I’ll say so.
